The International Journal of Event Management Research (IJEMR) is a peer-reviewed academic journal committed to publishing rigorous, original and relevant research in event management and event studies.
Editorial decisions are made independently by the Editor-in-Chief and editorial team on the basis of scholarly merit, originality, methodological quality, ethical conduct, relevance to the journal’s scope and value to readers. Commercial interests, advertising, author nationality, institutional affiliation, gender, race, religion, political views or personal relationships must not influence editorial decisions.
The journal’s editorial structure may include an Editor-in-Chief, Associate/Section Editors, Editorial Board members, Managing Editor and Editorial Office staff.
Editors are responsible for:
assessing whether submissions fit the journal’s scope;
selecting qualified, independent reviewers;
ensuring fair, timely and confidential peer review;
managing conflicts of interest;
making decisions based on the evidence and reviewer feedback;
maintaining the integrity of the published record; and
handling concerns, corrections, retractions and appeals in accordance with journal policy.
Editorial Board members advise on journal strategy, promote scholarly standards, support peer review and contribute expertise in relevant subject areas. Board membership is reviewed periodically to maintain active, diverse and internationally representative editorial oversight.
All submissions are screened before peer review. The editorial office or handling editor may check:
journal scope and manuscript type;
completeness of files and required declarations;
compliance with author guidelines and anonymisation requirements;
originality and potential text overlap;
ethical approval and consent statements where required;
conflicts of interest, funding and authorship declarations; and
potential research-integrity concerns.
Manuscripts that are outside scope, incomplete, unsuitable for peer review, seriously non-compliant with guidelines or affected by apparent ethical concerns may be returned to authors or declined without external review.
IJEMR uses a double-blind peer-review process. Authors do not know the reviewers’ identities, and reviewers do not know the authors’ identities, unless disclosure is required by law or agreed as part of a different review model announced by the journal.
Suitable manuscripts are normally assessed by at least two independent reviewers with relevant subject expertise. Editors may seek additional reviews where reviews conflict, specialist expertise is required or an ethical concern arises.
Reviewers are asked to assess:
originality and significance;
relevance to event management and event studies;
methodological rigour and validity;
clarity of presentation;
quality and accuracy of analysis;
ethical conduct and appropriate reporting;
adequacy of citations and acknowledgement of prior work; and
the validity of conclusions and implications.
Reviewer recommendations are advisory. The Editor is responsible for the final decision.

The journal aims to provide an initial editorial decision within 6–10 weeks where possible. This timeframe is an aim, not a guarantee, because it depends on the availability of qualified reviewers and the nature of the submission.
Reviewers must:
accept review invitations only within their area of expertise;
disclose actual, potential or perceived conflicts of interest;
decline review where they cannot provide an independent and timely assessment;
keep manuscripts, data, reviewer reports and editorial correspondence confidential;
not use unpublished material for personal, professional or commercial advantage;
provide constructive, objective and respectful comments; and
avoid personal criticism, discriminatory language or unsupported allegations.
Editors must not select reviewers based solely on author suggestions. Authors may request that particular individuals not review their work, with reasons; the Editor will consider these requests but is not bound by them.
All authors, editors, reviewers and Editorial Board members must disclose financial, institutional, professional, personal or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing their work.
Editors will not handle manuscripts where they have a conflict of interest, including manuscripts authored by themselves, close collaborators, current or recent students, supervisors or colleagues. Such manuscripts will be assigned to an independent editor, and the conflicted person will have no role in the review or decision process.
Disclosed conflicts will be assessed by the editorial team and published where relevant to readers’ interpretation of the work.
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the work, participated in drafting or critical revision, approved the final version and accept accountability for their contribution.
All authors must approve the submitted manuscript and any revised version. Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged, with permission.
Changes to authorship after submission require a written explanation and written agreement from all listed authors, including any author being added or removed. Changes will be considered only where justified and consistent with research-integrity standards.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that research involving human participants, personal data, interviews, surveys, images or sensitive information has been conducted ethically and in accordance with applicable institutional and legal requirements.
Where relevant, manuscripts must state:
the name of the approving ethics committee or institutional review board;
approval reference number, where available;
how informed consent was obtained; and
how participant confidentiality and data protection were managed.
The journal does not tolerate plagiarism, duplicate submission, redundant publication, data fabrication, data falsification, citation manipulation, image manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, peer-review manipulation or other forms of publication misconduct.
Concerns may be investigated before or after publication. The journal may request raw data, ethical approvals, authorship information, explanations or institutional confirmation. Serious concerns may result in rejection, correction, expression of concern, retraction or notification to relevant institutions or authorities.
Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the accuracy, integrity or originality of scholarly work.
Authors must disclose material use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools in manuscript preparation, including the name of the tool and how it was used. Authors remain fully responsible for verifying all content, references, data, quotations and conclusions.
Reviewers and editors must not upload confidential manuscripts or reviewer reports to public or unapproved AI tools. AI tools must not be used to replace independent editorial judgement or peer review.
Authors invited to revise must submit:
a clean revised manuscript;
a tracked-changes version, where requested; and
a detailed point-by-point response to editor and reviewer comments.
Once accepted, manuscripts undergo copyediting, formatting, metadata preparation and proofreading. Proofs are sent to the corresponding author for checking typographical, factual and formatting errors.
Proof corrections must be returned by the stated deadline. Substantive changes to accepted manuscripts may require editorial approval and, where necessary, further peer review. Authors remain responsible for checking the accuracy of names, affiliations, references, tables, figures and final text.
IJEMR compiles issues according to its published editorial schedule and available accepted content. Articles are assigned to an issue only after acceptance, final editorial preparation and author proof approval.
The editorial office will ensure that each issue includes accurate:
volume, issue, page range or article number;
title, author names and affiliations;
abstract, keywords and references;
publication date;
copyright or licence information; and
article metadata for indexing and discovery.
The journal will aim to publish regularly and will communicate material delays to affected authors. The order of articles within an issue is determined by editorial and production requirements, not by payment, advertising or author preference.
The Editorial Office may assist authors with:
navigating the submission system;
explaining submission requirements;
clarifying manuscript status;
identifying missing files or declarations;
explaining revision and proofing procedures; and
providing basic formatting guidance.
Editorial support does not include writing, rewriting, translating, analysing data, preparing research results or guaranteeing acceptance. Authors remain responsible for the content, language quality, ethics, authorship and accuracy of their manuscripts.
Where language editing is recommended, authors may use an independent professional service at their own discretion. Use of an editing service does not guarantee acceptance and must not influence editorial decisions.
IJEMR is committed to maintaining an accurate scholarly record.
Correction: issued where an error affects understanding, metadata, interpretation or attribution but does not invalidate the work.
Expression of Concern: issued where a serious concern is being investigated and a final outcome is not yet available.
Retraction: issued where findings are unreliable due to serious error or misconduct, where publication ethics have been seriously breached, or where legal or ethical grounds require removal or withdrawal.
Corrections, expressions of concern and retractions will be clearly linked to the original article. Retracted articles will remain identifiable in the scholarly record unless removal is legally required.
Authors may appeal an editorial decision where they believe a significant factual error, procedural irregularity, undisclosed conflict of interest or demonstrably unfair review affected the decision. Appeals must be submitted in writing to [editorial email] within 30 days of the decision.
Appeals will be reviewed by an editor not involved in the original decision wherever possible. An appeal does not guarantee reconsideration or acceptance.
The journal welcomes good-faith comments and concerns about published articles. Concerns should include clear evidence and be sent to [editorial email]. The journal will handle complaints fairly, confidentially and without retaliation.
Authors are encouraged to make underlying data, code and materials available where ethically, legally and practically possible. Where data cannot be shared, authors should explain the restriction in a data-availability statement.
All sources must be cited accurately. Authors must not manipulate citations to increase citation counts for themselves, editors, reviewers, institutions or the journal.
The journal will take reasonable steps to maintain permanent access to published content and article metadata through its website, archives and appropriate preservation arrangements.
IJEMR publicly provides information about its aims and scope, editorial board, peer-review process, author guidelines, publication ethics, copyright or licensing, advertising policy, privacy policy and contact details.
The journal seeks to maintain regular publication, high-quality English-language metadata, accurate abstracts and transparent editorial practices. These measures support discoverability and eligibility for assessment by indexing services, including Scopus, but do not guarantee inclusion in any index.
